The first day we hiked about 12 miles to Mud Lake. Dont let the name fool you, its gorgeous. There are no two ways about it, this day was difficult but one of the most rewarding days of hiking that I have had. We passed a total of 6 amazing alpine lakes. The second day took us to the Little North Fork Clearwater. There are no roads to this section of the river so the fishing is amazing. I did, however, underestimate the flow and tried to wade in with a pair flip-flops. That didnt work so well, I lost one of them and hurt my foot. This entire day was down hill, so although it was less strenuous, it was definitely more painful. No need to rush on the third day, stay and fish for a while. The third day is up hill all the way but it is gradual and you can make great time. Dont get scared by down trees, you are still on the correct trail. I became thoroughly distraught when I started running into down trees across the trail, a trail that was supposedly used a fair amount by pack horses. Overall this has been my favorite hike.
